The Mystic Shrine of North
America is an International, non-profit organization founded on August
13th 1870. In 1922 it expanded its horizons when it opened the first
Shrine Hospital for Children. That is the Shrine Charitable Foundation
which is frequently referred to as:
"The World's Greatest Philanthropy"
Shriner's Hospitals, located in Canada, the United States and
Mexico, are maintained and operated by the Shrine of North America.
Patients are never charged for any care or service received at the
hospitals; including all outpatient and inpatient care; diagnostic
services, surgery, medical care, casts, braces, X-rays, rehabilitation
programs, recreation, clothing and continuation of their education.
This
philanthropy is supported by each Shriner's annual hospital assessment,
fund-raising events and by contributions and bequests of our many friends
who want to make an Investment In Humanity; to help improve the
quality of life for crippled and burned children.
Tax-deductible contributions can be made to Shriner's Hospitals for
Children through gifts of cash, securities, real estate, life insurance
and through provisions in wills or trusts.
The Nobles that make up the
Shrine come from all walks of life. They include janitors and judges,
teachers and truck drivers, lawyers and laymen, clergy and carpenters,
foremost leaders of business, the professionals and government. These men
have found something of value in the work of the Shrine.
Abou Ben Adhem Temple and
consequently Lake Stockton Shrine Club are affiliates of the Imperial
Council, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine; with its
headquarters in Tampa, FL.
Since the first Shriners
Hospital opened in 1922, every patient who has received treatment at a
Shriners Hospital received the finest medical care possible, totally free
of charge.
Throughout the years, the 19
orthopedic specialty hospital and three burns units have been responsible
for improving the quality of life for more than 600,000 children under the
age of 18.
While numbers alone do not
tell the entire story about the tremendous history of Shriners Hospitals,
they do point to the success of the Shrine's commitment to helping
children.
